Saguaro Wall Swag
Looking for some sharp crochet decor , maybe you like Cacti? How about Saguaro? Itβs my favorite. I took a road trip through the south east and seeing a Saguaro Cactus in real life was the top of my list. When I finally did it was so much more than Iβd hoped for, they can seem so massive up close. I felt so small and magical.
Materials:
Above is a collection of the colors I used. (Brown, Green, Lime, Yellow, Cream, and Fuscia
4 ply Worsted Weight yarn
5mm Hook
Yarn needle
Wooden dowel (you can find them at Lowes, Home Depot etc. close to the lumber section)
Scissors
The Body:
The main part of this project is worked in granny squares. Think of it as making a tiny mini blanket.
Granny Square:
Row 1- magic circle 3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC, CH 1 and join.
Row 2-CH 2 and turn, (3 DC, CH 1, 3 DC) into each corner CH space.
Make 7 diagonal half brown grannys
Make 8 full brown grannys
Make 2 full yellow grannys
Make 4 diagonal half and half yellow and white grannys
Make 2 diagonal half and half green and white grannys
Make 3 2/3s grannys - Row 1 is all green, Row 2 is two corners green, two corners white
Make 7 full green grannys
Make 25 full white grannys
You can block your squares now or you can block the entire piece once they are sewn together. Which is what I did.
Once you have everything layed out stitch your squares together with a whip stitch through back loops only. I stitched the bottom section together first.
SC around the edges of the body and DC crochet across the top.
I initially stitched everything together with the cream yarn but then decided to coordinate colors because I thought it looked better.
Stitch the lime around the green squares like so to make the prickles.
Flower:
magic circle and SC 8 times with yellow.
Row 2- Bobble stitch, SL ST into next st, repeat four times. With pink
Then stitch on anywhere you want.
Using your Cream yarn SC around your wooden dowel and across the top.
Next up is the fringe. I used a book to wrap the yarn around then cut the yarn on both sides of the book. Using one strand in each stitch across the bottom, pull the yarn through and loop around the ends and pull taught.
