Unraveling the Skein of my life (in a good way)
I'm finally making the time to sit down and write an actual Blog post. I know so far on here I have only posted free patterns, but I have hopes that this will become much more than that. I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling in the next few months so I may not have the time to create as many new patterns As I want but I do have some big ideas. I wanna take this opportunity to share a little of my story with you guys and what I have planned for Hustle and Hook, I'm so stoked.
I moved to Los Angeles in January of 2013. I had been born and raised in Memphis, TN never really having traveled outside of the mideast. I was making plans to move to a new state and had a list (I love making lists) of states that never would have included California. I went out one night with some friends that were on their way to making a life in Los Angeles, I told them I was preparing to move but hadn't figured out where exactly and they extended an invite to venture to LA with them. Moving to a new place is always easier with another person or people, so I took them up on the offer and 5 months later I loaded up my Scion with everything I could fit and made my way across the US.
I had never planned on staying in Los Angeles, it was just a stepping stone to creating new life experiences. I began progressing in my jobs and landed one at UCLA making hella good money, five years later I'm realizing I got way too comfortable financially but wasn't happy living in California anymore. I'm so glad for the connections and experiences that I've gained here and so thankful for the amazing friends I've made, however it's time to move on for me.
I also realized I needed to get out of my current vocation, the lack of creativity and problem solving was driving me into a depressive state. So I set out to change that as well. Iβve been working 60 hour work weeks and saving up as much money as I can, I moved into my car, started making plans for cosmetology schools to attend, researched states that best fit the structure (and financial freedom) I was seeking, began building this blog and my crochet community, put in my notice at work and now I'm just waiting for April 6th. I'm so excited to take you guys along for the ride.
On that note let's get into my plans for Hustle and Hook. I want to share my experiences as well as my creations with you guys so I'm setting up a YouTube channel that will not only host crochet tutorials and projects but will also include my travels and things I'm making on the road. I'll be road tripping before I head back to school, I'm starting out the beginning of April and I have until the middle of June before the next semester of Cosmetology schools are set to start. I never thought that I would be able to somehow combine my two passions which are fiber arts and the outdoors but I think I can (for a little while anyway) with this trip.
So armed with the knowledge of what I know I do NOT want, I'm setting out to find a place that suits me a little more. While some people may view my life as a hot mess, like a variegated skein of yarn, I can see the design slowly taking shape. I know that it will become the life I want for myself and right now I'm enjoying the process and the company (my yarn crew rocks).
I head out on April 9th and the first video is set to post before I take off so keep a look out and of course Iβll keep you up to date.
Catch you on the wrong side ;)
